On September 2-3, 2022, after a two-year disruption due to the pandemic, the “13th Caria, Carians and Milas Symposium” will be held in Milas near Bodrum, owing its existence solely to the tireless efforts of Olcay Akdeniz. The symposium brings together many archaeologists working in western Turkey. Its theme “Economy and Trade in Caria” will commence with an invited lecture by Dr. Eberhard Zangger on “The Late Bronze Age Economy in Western Asia Minor.” The lecture will yield insights into the latest quantitative evaluations of the settlement pattern of the 477 currently recorded major Late Bronze Age in western Turkey.
On September 12, Zangger will speak on “Geosciences and Archaeology: Reconstructing Landscapes and Trade Relationships” as part of the 8th Meggen Raw Materials Days. A one-hour lecture on the current state of knowledge on “Luwian Culture” will follow on September 19, 2022 in Zurich.
