“The political geography of western Anatolia in the LBA, and the region’s interaction with its neighbours, in particular the Balkan” is the title of Session #43 at the annual conference of the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA), which takes place from 4 to 7 September in Bern in Switzerland. The session will be held on Saturday, September 7, between 8:30 and 15:30 in the auditorium (room 210) of the main building of the University of Bern (Hochschulstrasse 6). The program comprises 16 lectures by scientists from Central and Southeastern Europe and Turkey. It can be downloaded here as a PDF. Visitors are welcome but will be asked to pay the conference fee of 180 Euro at on-site registration.
The session is organized by the board members of Luwian Studies Ivo Hajnal, Jorrit Kelder and Eberhard Zangger. It aims to present western Anatolia not simply as buffer zone between other regions and states, but as a region with its own socio-political and cultural developments, that was fully integrated in the LBA world. The presentations will be published as soon as possible in the form of conference proceedings.
The theme of the EAA conference this year is “Beyond Paradigms”. About 1800 participants are expected.
