Medet Höyük

Site ID: 155

The tell is located in the ancient city of Apollonia Salbace, 7 km southwest of the county town Tavas in the province of Denizli. The modern Turkish village Vakıf was founded directly on top of the ancient city. So far, no excavations have been made into prehistoric layers. However, the Museum in Denizli conducted short-term excavations in the ancient stadium. James Mellaart counted the tell among the prehistoric sites. He reported “black core, buff ware, red wash, polished”. He did not report the size of the tell. Surface finds point at a beginning of habitation during the Chalcolithic and throughout the Bronze Age. Apparently, the place was newly named and founded in Hellenistic times.
