Foundation Board Meeting in Athens

Last year, the Foundation Board of Luwian Studies began holding one of its annual meetings outside Zurich. The first such gathering took place in 2025 in Isernhagen near Hanover, at the invitation of Foundation Board member Dr. Jörg Mull.

From 25 to 29 April 2026, the Board convened in Athens. The host was Dr. Jorrit Kelder, who currently lives and works there before moving to Oxford later this summer. The garden café of the Schliemann House, Iliou Melathron, near Syntagma Square, provided an especially fitting setting for the meeting.

The programme included excursions to Mycenae and Tiryns, visits to the Acropolis and the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology, and a welcome by Rebecca Sweetman, Director of the British School at Athens. The gathering provided an opportunity not only to conduct the Foundation’s regular business but also to engage in scholarly discussions at some of the most important sites of the Aegean Bronze Age. Particular attention was given to ongoing research projects concerning the cultures of the Aegean and Anatolian Bronze Ages, as well as to the Foundation’s future strategic development.
