The Joint Alumni Forum in Switzerland is an association of alumni of Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, Yale, and Columbia. The Forum organizes occasional lectures for interested members. Eberhard Zangger, President of Luwian Studies, has been invited to speak at the next event. The lecture will take place on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 18:30 at the Debattierhaus Karl der Grosse, Kirchgasse 14, 8001 Zurich. The title of the lecture is:
Lost Civilizations and the Stars: Deciphering an Ancient Astronomical Sanctuary
Zangger will give an overview of the latest research results from the Hittite rock sanctuary of Yazılıkaya. A version of a lecture on the same topic from March 2019 is already available on YouTube. Due to numerous new findings, there is now an opportunity to get to know the topic in an updated form. In particular, it will be explained how the knowledge gained from Yazılıkaya can contribute to a better understanding of other mysterious Bronze Age finds.
